its-gratis.com is a innovative solution to the problem of the economics of art, but in particular turns it into a concept. In the sense that it’s not just a different way to make money with art, but also questions what value art has today, what the consequences of sharing, open source etc are for fine art.
How it works as an exhibition
You can buy COMPLETELY GRATIS up to 5 from the images on the wall. All you have to do is ask the staff to exchange the picture for a note with the title of the picture and the place where you live, e.g. IMG_1949, Basel, Switzerland.
While each picture is numbered, the edition is 25 copies, I have to know the names of the images sold. I like to know where you live, because everyone who orders a picture gets a pin on a world map on its-gratis.com, and the more people who buys a picture the bigger the project becomes. I also hope you will support and take part in the project by sending me a documentation of the picture you ordered, when it’s hanging on the wall or in any way in use, to email@example.com. Your documentation is shown together with your pin marker on its-gratis.com and in future project presentations and -exhibitions.
If you do not find a picture that you like, you can go to its-gratis.com, here you can order up to 5 images from over 1000 photos, and you will get it sent home TOTALLY GRATIS. As in the exhibition, The images are laser-printouts on normal thick paper. Every picture is signed and numbered, edition of 25, on the front side. Against payment it’s possible to have the picture as fine art prints in bigger sizes as well as signed and numbered on the back side.
